New project! (well, I had already drafted the pattern and cut the fabric a few weeks ago, actually).

I've started #sewing a pair of jeans-like trousers for my SO, in a mystery fabric that is probably¹ made of a cotton warp and wool weft (or vice versa? but that doesn't sound right) I had bought in 2018 because the description on the website sounded wrong (it was, in a good way) and it was cheap.

Pattern and instructions will be published.

And I've already sewed the pockets wrong. It can be fixed, but they won't be perfect.
(as if anybody other than me will care about the seam at the bottom of a pocket :D )

¹ tested with bleach and flame.

Nuovo progetto!

Pubblicherò cartamodello e istruzioni, prima o poi.

I'm trying to make myself a pair of #knit and #felted slippers, designing my own pattern.

I've just frogged all of the work done today. except for the bit that had already been frogged and remade earlier in the evening.

Luckily I didn't spend *a lot of time* on it today, but still :(

At least, I'm working with 6mm tree trunks rather than my usual 2-3 mm needles :D

@FiberArts group

The 1880s sports jacket is done!

Well, almost.

I still have to add half of the hooks and bars, and I don't have enough (nor I could go to buy them today), so the front closure is a bit strained; I have ideas on how to fix it, and on how to do it better the next time.

Also the pockets still need a bit of reinforcement embroidery on the upper corners.

Also, I need to finish writing instructions and publish them.

However, the pockets are big enough to fit a postcard, which is quite fitting for #WorldPostcardDay :D and with some effort (not pictured) even a small watercolour pad / book to be able to do the victorian lady thing and take paintings while resting at the destination of the hike (yeah, right. as if I was able to draw, and I didn't just take pictures and trace those back home instead :D )

The towel and other necessary things go in the big pocket of the skirt, of course :D

And it needs a bit of washing and pressing after being manipulated for weeks, but the fit is better than it looks in these pictures, and I'm especially happy with the fit of the sleeve, which hugs the arm in just the right rest position, while also allowing a lot of movement.

The self-induced problem with trying to post in both English and Italian is: do I think in English and then translate to Italian? vice versa? or write more or less the same thing, but thinking it natively in the language I'm writing, which will result in subtle differences in the text?

Ok, ormai i giornali li abbiamo letti, sappiamo cos'è successo.

During the weekend I ordered some fabric to make myself a bathrobe.

This morning I washed my old one and found this:

and of course I want to try to draft an unusual pattern for it, so absolutely no pressure on making it quickly and right at the first try, right? :D

Have they sent it yet? and yet? and yet?

I'm currently making a (cotton-)linen jacket.

Last weekend it was too hot to wear it. This week the temperature forecast for the evening is around 12-13°C.

I've decided to finish all sewing allowances by herrinboning it down to the lining by hand. there are 7 seams in the body + 2 on the shoulders, two seams on each sleeve, and then the hems, fronts, neckline, etc.

Will I be able to wear it before the temperatures are too low for linen?

“Math is not my favorite thing, but it does underlie my favorite results. For, you see, math is the language of the universe. Math answers the question of why some notes harmonize and others don't, why some shapes please and others don't, why some buildings stand for centuries and others fall down after a decade. Math is behind ferns and shells and great works of architecture having the same proportions. Mathematical failures are why ugly things are ugly, bridges fail, and quilts are crooked.”

A couple of years ago I bought a small square + protractor like the one in the picture, and LOVED it.

And then, one day it disappeared. I knew it was somewhere in the home, but couldn't find it anywhere. So when I had a chance I bought a new one.

a 45° square with a long side marked in cm (from 7 to 0 to 7) and mm, parallel lines from that side up to 40 mm and protractor markings in a semicircle and on the short sides.

Yesterday evening I wanted to check something in the Corsets and Crinolines book. and it felt strange, as if it had something rigid in it, and I wondered what piece of cardboard or something I had used as a bookmark the last time I used it.

You can all see where this is going, right? :D

Does anybody know what the current situation is with CC-0 licensed #clipart websites?

openclipart.org seems to be back, is it still the old openclipart or has it been taken over by somebody else?

What about the two mirrors I know of that appeared when openclipart died? are they the recommended ones? freesvg.org/ and permaclipart.org/ ? is there something else?

Has anybody started a huge git repository of clipart that is shared via sneakernet by meeting graphic designers in car parks and other similar shady places? :D

(I'm looking for places to upload things to)

(boosts welcome)

In the surviving examples of historical clothing it's pretty common to see sewing allowances that are just pinked, or quickly overcast, or sometimes even left unfinished.

Which is why I'm taking my time to slowly herringbone down the allowances on the (five) back seams of this jacket, right?

Some (not all) of the red pieces on my 3d-printed (and hand-painted) #piecepack have turned almost white. Every time I've used in the last year or so I planned to repaint them. Today it has happened :D

@göktuğ, of the orien't apparently, making the knot at the back at the head instead of the front is perfectly fine for a young person (or a not-so-young, but still not grandmother age like me), instead :D

(this is a town in the north of Italy, and my mother is born in the 1950s, btw, if somebody was wondering)

(not that it's common to see people wearing those head coverings, these days, even if the fancy silk ones are still being sold)

Speaking of #BannerFangirls: I've been wondering whether there is anybody else here in the fediverse who has suffered from an irresistible urge to have a witch hat with ear flaps.

I'm really happy with it because I've had quite a hard time finding detailed instructions for this time period: for the earlier pirate-style shirt there are plenty of articles (and a certain video), but this doesn't seem to be as common.

I'm not going to actually make myself half a dozen shirts, because I don't dress like a victorian gentleman every day :D , but I already have a cut of thin, red wool fabric waiting for me to turn it into a shirt :D
