The self-induced problem with trying to post in both English and Italian is: do I think in English and then translate to Italian? vice versa? or write more or less the same thing, but thinking it natively in the language I'm writing, which will result in subtle differences in the text?

It depends... Writing in german and english I sometimes translate and sometimes rethink it in the other language. For me it is easyer to rethink it than to translate, because my brain switches to the given language, making it harder to find words when I try to translate.
A text in two languages is never the same anyways. Language is not just words. It is concepts of thinking and feeling...
that is me, when they dub something where I speak both languages. My brain goes "but they didn't say that!"
It doesn't bother me, if the author writes it differently in two different languages. That's creative choices. But you cannot. Absolutely not. Do it to someone elses text, imo.
@Sibylle @Tobias There is worse. There are subtitles *in the same language* which say a different thing. And it's not even something shorter, to make it fit in the limited subtitle space for some reason, sometimes it's even longer.

I've decided to finish all sewing allowances by herrinboning it down to the lining by hand. there are 7 seams in the body + 2 on the shoulders, two seams on each sleeve, and then the hems, fronts, neckline, etc.
Will I be able to wear it before the temperatures are too low for linen?
Lo scorso weekend faceva troppo caldo per metterla. Questa settimana le previsioni danno 12-13°C alla sera.
Ho deciso di finire tutti i margini di cucitura cucendoli a punto mosca alla fodera, a mano. Ci sono 7 cuciture nel corpo + 2 sulle spalle, due per ciascuna manica, e poi orli, davanti, collo, ecc.
Ce la farò ad indossarla prima che le temperature siano troppo basse per il lino?
@Burnout che parlava di sabato sera mi ha fatto venire in mente che una volta al mese io partecipo a Hack and Craft, una videochiamata in cui si crafta e si chiacchera di argomenti vari; ho visto cucire, lavorare ai ferri, filare, disegnare, programmare, ecc.
Ci sarebbe qui sul fediverso qualcuno interessato a fare la stessa cosa, ma in italiano? ovviamente in un giorno compatibile per chi voglia partecipare anche all'originale.

@Troppacaffeina postcrossing è un sito dove si può caricare un indirizzo dove si riceve posta cartacea, schisciando un bottone sul sito si riceve l'indirizzo di un utente a caso a cui spedire una cartolina e quando questa arriva (e viene registrata come arrivata dal destinatario) il proprio indirizzo viene messo nel pool tra cui pescare, e prima o poi si riceve una cartolina da un altro utente a caso.
osmcards è la stessa cosa, ma per chi ha un account su openstreetmap (e per ora c'è pochissima gente, credo che non sia stato pubblicizzato molto), e in più permette anche di ottenere indirizzi non a caso, se l'utente destinatario l'ha permesso.

A couple of years ago I bought a small square + protractor like the one in the picture, and LOVED it.
And then, one day it disappeared. I knew it was somewhere in the home, but couldn't find it anywhere. So when I had a chance I bought a new one.
Yesterday evening I wanted to check something in the Corsets and Crinolines book. and it felt strange, as if it had something rigid in it, and I wondered what piece of cardboard or something I had used as a bookmark the last time I used it.
Un paio di anni fa ho comprato una mini squadra + goniometro come quella nella foto del post sopra, e l'ho ADORATA.
E poi ad un certo punto è sparita. Sapevo che era da qualche parte in casa, ma non c'era verso di trovarla. E quindi alla prima occasione ne ho ricomprata un'altra.
Ieri sera volevo controllare qualcosa sul libro Corsets and Crinolines, e sembrava strano, come se ci fosse dentro qualcosa di rigido, e mi son chiesta che razza di pezzo di cartone o cosa avessi usato come segnalibro l'ultima volta.
Immagino che sappiate tutti come è andata a finire :D
quella piccolina è comoda da usare nell'unico angolino libero di scrivania, ed è anche comodo avere righellosquadragoniometro in una cosa sola da tenere sottomano senza doversi alzare e arrivare fino al cassetto :)
e fino a che devo tirar righe dritte e prendere misure su un foglio A6 e non misurare con precisione gli angoli con cui navigare, le dimensioni non sono un problema :D
Prima del GPS chi andava a pescare cercava i posti giusti usando i "punti notevoli", cioè allineando colline, campanili, ciminiere e altre cose alte che si vedevano dal mare, che è un metodo di navigazione risalente ai Fenici o anche prima.
@Bevilacqua Gustavino intendi come riferimenti sulla cartina per trovare la propria posizione come si fa con le carte topografiche qui in montagna :D oppure a occhio in base a quello che gli aveva insegnato il padre a cui l'aveva insegnato il nonno ecc.?

Has anybody started a huge git repository of clipart that is shared via sneakernet by meeting graphic designers in car parks and other similar shady places? :D
i think the original openclipart.org website is supposed to stay around for a while, now that it’s been relaunched and has been reintegrated into Inkscape. Some info about its history on Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Openclip…
In the surviving examples of historical clothing it's pretty common to see sewing allowances that are just pinked, or quickly overcast, or sometimes even left unfinished.
Which is why I'm taking my time to slowly herringbone down the allowances on the (five) back seams of this jacket, right?

un forno solare è fondamentalmente un sistema di vetri e specchi che sfrutta l'effetto serra per alzare la temperatura di un ambiente ristretto a temperature sufficienti per cuocere (sopra i 75°C, a grandi linee, ma ce ne sono che superano i 100°C).
e si possono costruire con scatoloni usati, carta stagnola e colla vinilica.
Some (not all) of the red pieces on my 3d-printed (and hand-painted) #piecepack have turned almost white. Every time I've used in the last year or so I planned to repaint them. Today it has happened :D

I've finished making my gentleman's shirt (or Garibaldi Shirt, if we want to call it with a womanswear name) and published the full instructions online.
I'm really happy with it because I've had quite a hard time finding detailed instructions for this time period: for the earlier pirate-style shirt there are plenty of articles (and a certain video), but this doesn't seem to be as common.
(cue lots of people providing me with links to patterns and articles about this style of shirt :D )
And when I end the instructions by saying “start making the rest of the half dozen” I really mean it :D
I'm not going to actually make myself half a dozen shirts, because I don't dress like a victorian gentleman every day :D , but I already have a cut of thin, red wool fabric waiting for me to turn it into a shirt :D
After discovering that I had cut the sleeves wrong and keeping the project on hold for a while, I've resumed working on it, re-cutting and re-sewing the sleeves.
I've finished one of the sleeves and it's ready to be attached to the body.
The other sleeve is almost completely done, except for the fact that I maaaay have lost one of the cuffs. Tomorrow I'll try to look for it again, or I'll surrender and cut another one :(
At least one sleeve is enough to take the remaining pictures , so that when I'm not sewing I can keep working on the pattern and hopefully publish it in the near future.
I thought I had just taken the next-to-last step-by-step picture (the last one being buttons and buttonholes), but no, I still have a bit of finishing to do at the hem. sigh.
tomorrow I'll be able to finish writing the instructions for the shirt!
and then hopefully *finish* the shirt in time to get washed in monday's laundry, ironed and then I can take the finished object pictures and publish everything!
While looking for the missing cuff (still missing) I've found a bag of vintage buttons I had also misplaced, and which would have been harder to replace.
And this was the last step-by-step picture, now I only need to press the shirt and take some finished object pictures (weather permitting) and then I can publish the instructions!
