What I want to look into is the relevant history of the occult/magical in the territory that’s modern Italy, and their intersection with pagan/non-Christian religious practices, including folklore, over time (as relevant, but I’m interested how they shifted after Catholicism and into modern times).

in reply to ✾, chief troublemaker • • •I think we'd start by looking for encyclopedia articles, and from there try to figure out how to use academic databases like JSTOR (which still has the program where you can read 100 articles a month on a free account: support.jstor.org/hc/en-us/art… ) or the various online services our local libraries offer to get scholarly papers on the subject.
That, and figure out what authors we should be looking for and searching for their work through whatever channels we have access to.
