I don't have a good place to use the #solarOven in the middle of the day (I get direct sun from around 13:30 daylight saving time), and today it's a bit overcast, but the temperature probe below the pot has been above 65°C for a few hours now.

Today I decided I wanted to resume working on a #python script to generate an svg file for a piecepack set from a template and svgs of the suites, which is something I've been working on and (mostly) off for ages.
What I did today:
* did a bit of cleanup in the directory where I thought the script was (it wasn't)
* moved an unrelated script (to generate a template for telescoping boxes) which *was* in the above directory to the repository where I was actually working on the piecepack script
* did the initial release on pypy of my library to write command line commands (which at the moment is basically just what I had in lesana, extracted in a way that is general purpose).
Not sure whether I should have a feeling of accomplishment (I *did* things that were in the queue for months) or lack of :D

I'm not 100% happy with it: it is quite heavy, so it's probably not really confortable to use (or at least to carry around), but using a thinner wool probably wouldn't be sturdy enough. Also, the felting isn't very regular.
However, it is usable, so I'm calling it done, and will use it at home.
And move on to the next attempt at making AllTheFauxdori. because I'm absolutely not obsessed with those, right?

@Samuele I tend to write *small*: sometimes I even use a preppy 02 upside down to get a smaller line, afaik german nibs tend to be significantly bigger than japanese ones.
Also, everybody I've heard talking about Lamy's nibs says that they are all great, except for the EF ones

planner_generator.py needs a system with python3, inkscape and pdfjam: in debian the latter is in the package texlive-extra-utils (and yes, it will install a lot of dependencies)
and then ./planner_generator.py --help should give hints; I've started to write some docs and found some bugs, and right now I can't fix them, but I'll look into it later.
I have no idea whether they work on something that isn't linux, however
(also, within reason, I'm willing to just generate custom requests with one of those templates and a custom language, if running the script is too much of a hassle — I can see it being so)
If there is ONE thing I don't need right now it's another #sewing pattern for the 18th century, right?

Now it's raining and the temperatures have gone down a bit: should I do it more often?

Since a few weeks, my #debian #bookworm system was no longer able to build the initrd.img for new kernels. This morning it couldn't boot at all with a recent kernel (it did with an older one), so I found the time to look into it: it seems that the problem could have been related to the fact that my system still had split /usr; I've installed the #usrmerge package and now the initrd.img has been built.

I've just realized that watercolours with a water brush are the artsy-painty thing that uses less water among all of the ones that I have around the house.
With just a few squeezes and passes on a wiping cloth for washing the brushes, and no other tool that requires washing, it's pretty hard to beat them.
Given the name, that's somewhat counterintuitive, however :)
(yes, I could be using pencils, pastels, pens and a lot of other things that don't require washing at all)

TIL what happens when you freeze a banana.
Recipe:
Around 17 on the day before discover that you're out of lemons, peel a just barely ripe banana anyway, cut it into round slices, put it into a small box with a tight fitting lid, leave it in the freezer overnight.
Around 9 in the morning get the box with the banana from the fridge, put it into the bento box with the rest of the meal, put everything in a thermal bag with two small reusable ice blocks and a bottle of water that had remained in the fridge overnight.
Drive 1.5 - 2 hours in ~30°C (no AC), leave in the trunk of the car while doing $THINGS; at 12:30 - 13:00 get the bento box, eat the lunch, eat the banana.
It was *sweet*. It was very soft, it could be picked up with a fork, but just barely, and it was extremely sweet. it had also leaked a sweet syrupy liquid that was also quite sweet.
Have I mentioned sweet?
It wasn't too sweet, however, as long as one has a bit of a sweet tooth it was quite pleasing.

Another thing you can do with a frozen banana (a more ripe one) is, freeze the (peeled) banana with a skewer in the end. Take it out and dip in molten chocolate, and return to the freezer until set.
You now have a cold ice-cream substitute with a crunchy chocolate shell :)
(optional, roll the freshly dipped banana in finely chopped nuts before re-freezing)

Should it have the columns in order 1 2 3 4 5 as they seem to be depicted on en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Bau… or should it be 5 4 1 2 3 as in the position of the keys?

I've received a piece of vintage lace, of a type that would work nicely on a petticoat ruffle.
While handsewing the linen shirt I'm working on, I've also started to think that the same fabric would also be nice for a petticoat or a petticoat+corset cover combination (and I have enough for it).
But such a garment doesn't call for just a bit of lace at the hem, it calls for some lace on the ruffles, some insertion (and pintucks, dere vill be pintucks), and while of course I have a box of lace of various kinds, I don't have enough for that project.
However, the more I think about it, rather than wanting to look for enough matching lace in the stores, I'm tending towards going for a mix-and-match of looks, joined together by a theme of having some history.
So I'm using some lace that I've been given by different people, and then I want to puppy-eye my mother into doing some crochet lace for me, but then I thought that maybe I should also do some myself.
And thus, yesterday I asked my mother to teach me filet #crochet, I did the bigger square-ish under her guide, and then I've started a sampler band, starting with the simplest pattern to get myself to learn the right tension, and then trying various patterns as I go, until I finish the leftover of crochet lace appropriate yarn I've found in her stash.
I don't have any source on historical people doing something like this, but it's underwear, the silhouette will be correct, and nobody needs to know how it looks (other than the people who will see the pictures here on the fediverse :D )
ETA for the project: maybe a couple of years? Don't hold your collective breaths :D

One thing that bothers me while #sewing is trimming the sewing allowances: I understand that having wider allowances makes it easier to sew by machine, but all those strips of fabric waste hurt my feeling even if they end up as stuffing and not in a dump.
So, what I tend to do when sewing french seams is not to sew with half the seam allowance, but sew the first seam at a bit less than that and the second seam at a bit more.
And for flat-felled seams, I tend to cut the fabric with double allowance on just one side, and align the other side at one allowance of distance, as in the picture.
It doesn't really change anything, it's not like I can fit more pieces in the same fabric by saving that 6 mm strip, but it helps my OCD :D
I believe it was the norm in old sewing manuals, but I can't be bothered to look for the source right now, sorry

I took a picture of the test I did with the posca pen, ironed, and then thrown in the washing machine:
The blob on top is where I refreshed the paint on the pen, and I forgot to take a picture before washing it, but I believe it didn't wash away.
It's not great for fabric because it definitely has some rigidity that fabric paint avoids, but I think I can confirm it works.

The apron also has a waist belt, the pins only get the load of the bib, not the full strap and most importantly not of whatever ends up in the pocket.
The shirt I was wearing is a relatively flimsy one in cheap cotton voile that I made myself, so it's probably still sturdier than an average fast-fashion shirt? :( also it's in woven fabric and not knit, which helps.

Un bel po' di info sull'argomento si trovano su solarcooking.fandom.com
di solito i #forniSolari si dividono in tre famiglie: a pannello, a scatola e a parabola.
quelli a parabola funzionano in modo un po' diverso, raggiungono temperature più alte, bisogna stargli dietro mentre si cuoce.
gli altri due hanno in comune il fatto di fare fondamentalmente slow cooking: con un buon forno e una buona esposizione raggiungono e superano di poco anche i 100°C, mi dicono, ma io sono sempre arrivata tra i 70°C e gli 80°C.
In compenso, sono abbastanza imposta e dimentica: si inserisce il cibo nella pentola, ogni tanto (tra la mezz'ora e le due ore a seconda del pannello) si va a girare il forno perché sia sempre diretto verso il sole e dopo un po' di ore lo si trova pronto.

Non dura in eterno, ma qualche anno sì, ed è pieghevole, che è sempre pratico sia per riporlo quando non lo si usa che per trasportarlo.
Lo svantaggio è che essendo a pannello bisogna riparare le cose dal vento: un'opzione è usare dei sacchetti di plastica trasparente adatti al forno (che però vanno cambiati relativamente spesso), oppure ho usato una ciotola di vetro a testa in giù sopra al pentolino, che funziona, ma limita abbastanza le dimensioni di quello che ci si può mettere dentro.

Siccome sono una persona orrendamente pigra, se non ricordo male l'ho fatto tagliare ad inizio 2020 (o fine 2019), e ancora non ho finito di sistemare i sorgenti e pubblicarli :(
Ha il difetto di avere un'apertura sul davanti più stretta di quella del fun panel, e quindi va girato con maggiore frequenza (ogni ora è meglio), ma almeno si può usare tutto il volume per farci stare le pentole.
L'imbottitura mi è anche venuta troppo piccola, e quindi non sta imbottendo molto.

Se si trovano delle pentole di metallo con antiaderente ed esterno scuro che possano andare in forno, è l'ideale.
Prima di trovarle, ho usato per anni dei barattoli di vetro avvolti in stoffa nera: funzionano, ma hanno un bel po' di massa termica, e quindi richiedono più tempo per scaldarsi.

Non basta che entri luce, deve proprio vedere il sole, e il cielo deve essere abbastanza libero. D'estate c'è un po' più di tolleranza per il cielo un po' velato, d'inverno deve essere proprio terso (tipo bel cielo di Lombardia tanto bello quando è bello).
