About ten years ago, the IT building for a local highschool burned to the ground.
My company donated a spare Juniper EX3200 switch to help get them back online. They had erected a small structure without any insulation, and left the switch inside unpowered for a day while the fiber splicers got them hooked back up.
They started the switch, and it immediately shutdown. They looked a gift horse in the mouth and bitched to us that our donation was garbage.
I was dispatched to assist. I connected to the serial console and powered the device up. It immediately indicated that the CPU temperature was 252 C, and shut itself down.
It was January, the outside temperature was -3 C. The Juniper device was storing temperature as an 8-bit unsigned integer value. It got so cold, it thought it was on fire.
Can't say I ever expected to use a heat gun to get a switch to start before that day. Got it warm enough to power on, and then it kept itself plenty warm to continue operating.
Data types matter, yo.

Something similar, with modestly sized #EInk displays started showing up in Portland #trimet stops a few years ago:

For the first 12 or 18 months, they were crisply and clearly displaying the schedule from days, weeks, or even months ago. Made me wonder what sort of networking they use.
Recently have finally started working more reliably though...
Unfortunately, many stops that do not yet have them no longer have a schedule or even stop number posted...

arrivo all'imbarcadero a Torno ore 14.11. la corsa passa alle 14.09. prossima corsa 14.44, che arriva alle 14.57. ora che sbarca e imbarca partiamo che son da poco passate le 15.00. arrivo a Como ore 15.30, pontile di fronte alla stazione Nord. Il treno è partito alle 15.16, prossima corsa 16.16... ortomio!
Se tornavo a piedi probabilmente arrivavo prima.
mica questa cosa che arrivi un quarto d'ora dopo, che quasi quasi uno se ne fa una ragione!

He had to write some excel formulas, and he was writing them in 'pseudocode' before putting the formula together, while commenting about "why I can't write formulas in a sane language".

- Dist-upgraded my VPS from Debian 10 to Debian 11
- Updated the ansible playbook which configure my VPS almost up to date with the real state of my VPS. Things have started to diverge many moons ago. Now is quite back on track to be able to run without any unwanted side effects
- Installed Dentrite matrix homeserver with a couple of bridges, using the aforementioned ansible playbook
