Tips for dealing with extreme heat that I've learned as a cold-blooded Welsh pluviophile living in the arid hellscape that is South Africa;
* Soak your feet in a tub of cold water.
-- Better if you've got a fan pointed in your general direction; soak your feet until they acclimatise to the water temperature, remove feet and let the fan cool your wet feet down with evaporation, place feet back in water, repeat.

I'm not 100% happy with it: it is quite heavy, so it's probably not really confortable to use (or at least to carry around), but using a thinner wool probably wouldn't be sturdy enough. Also, the felting isn't very regular.
However, it is usable, so I'm calling it done, and will use it at home.
And move on to the next attempt at making AllTheFauxdori. because I'm absolutely not obsessed with those, right?

If you're fed up with streaming services, I can strongly recommend ordering or picking up DVDs from charity shops.
Some of them are selling at ridiculously low prices, and you get a library of stuff you have actually chosen.
If you rip it to a computer you can make your own little personal netflix, with no piracy involved, the titles stay available forever, and the money goes to charity.
(Same applies to CDs for making your own Spotify.)

Uops, my day has been sniped into updating my planner generation script to add an A5 daily planner option with graph or pointed paper.
Uops, la mia giornata è stata sniperata facendomi aggiornare il mio script per generare agende per aggiungere opzioni per un agenda A5 con una pagina per giorni a quadretti o puntini.

planner_generator.py needs a system with python3, inkscape and pdfjam: in debian the latter is in the package texlive-extra-utils (and yes, it will install a lot of dependencies)
and then ./planner_generator.py --help should give hints; I've started to write some docs and found some bugs, and right now I can't fix them, but I'll look into it later.
I have no idea whether they work on something that isn't linux, however
(also, within reason, I'm willing to just generate custom requests with one of those templates and a custom language, if running the script is too much of a hassle — I can see it being so)

Someone on Fedi created a site collecting news columns from centuries ago, debate articles by voices supporting the union between England and Scotland but pointing out its many flaws that would need to be addressed.
I read it with great interest a month or two ago. Who was it?

Yesterday evening, while it was pretty hot, I've decided that this night we'll try to use my grandmother's embroidered linen bedsheet, instead of keeping them in a drawer forever because they are too nice.
Now it's raining and the temperatures have gone down a bit: should I do it more often?

Electrons? Oh, you mean metal spirits?
We use metal strings to trap the metal spirits, and talismans of black sandstone engraved with tiny runic circles to harness their power.
Sometimes we replace the strings with totems made of layered metal, but those don't last very long on their own. We can also use light spirits to command the metal spirits at distance, but the metal spirits are the ones that do most of the work.

Since a few weeks, my #debian #bookworm system was no longer able to build the initrd.img for new kernels. This morning it couldn't boot at all with a recent kernel (it did with an older one), so I found the time to look into it: it seems that the problem could have been related to the fact that my system still had split /usr; I've installed the #usrmerge package and now the initrd.img has been built.

I've just realized that watercolours with a water brush are the artsy-painty thing that uses less water among all of the ones that I have around the house.
With just a few squeezes and passes on a wiping cloth for washing the brushes, and no other tool that requires washing, it's pretty hard to beat them.
Given the name, that's somewhat counterintuitive, however :)
(yes, I could be using pencils, pastels, pens and a lot of other things that don't require washing at all)

TIL what happens when you freeze a banana.
Recipe:
Around 17 on the day before discover that you're out of lemons, peel a just barely ripe banana anyway, cut it into round slices, put it into a small box with a tight fitting lid, leave it in the freezer overnight.
Around 9 in the morning get the box with the banana from the fridge, put it into the bento box with the rest of the meal, put everything in a thermal bag with two small reusable ice blocks and a bottle of water that had remained in the fridge overnight.
Drive 1.5 - 2 hours in ~30°C (no AC), leave in the trunk of the car while doing $THINGS; at 12:30 - 13:00 get the bento box, eat the lunch, eat the banana.
It was *sweet*. It was very soft, it could be picked up with a fork, but just barely, and it was extremely sweet. it had also leaked a sweet syrupy liquid that was also quite sweet.
Have I mentioned sweet?
It wasn't too sweet, however, as long as one has a bit of a sweet tooth it was quite pleasing.

Interesting.
Another thing you can do with a frozen banana (a more ripe one) is, freeze the (peeled) banana with a skewer in the end. Take it out and dip in molten chocolate, and return to the freezer until set.
You now have a cold ice-cream substitute with a crunchy chocolate shell :)
(optional, roll the freshly dipped banana in finely chopped nuts before re-freezing)

Should it have the columns in order 1 2 3 4 5 as they seem to be depicted on en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Bau… or should it be 5 4 1 2 3 as in the position of the keys?

* If you're at home and it's convenient, put a couple of inches of cold water in the bath and periodically lie in it. Make this process easier by wearing your bathers around the house. 😃 (Or just go nekkid if that's your thang.)
You want to keep your core body temp as low as possible. The effects of suffering from the heat are cumulative; every day gets worse/harder to deal with. So do whatever you can to stay as cool as possible constantly. Read a book in a cold bath if you must.

in reply to Calligrafae • • •* Get acquainted with ORS. Water is great but ORS solution is a far more efficient way to rehydrate. Buy at pharmacies in case of heatstroke.
* The idea that heatstroke should not be cooled down too quickly is outdated and incorrect. If you or anyone else experience heatstroke, cold bath or shower, plus ORS. Get them cool, rehydrated, and rest cool. Contact a doctor and check in on symptoms.
* If you have south facing windows: block them from the outside. Tape and tinfoil, or cardboard, whatever, just don't let sunlight get through multiple glazing layers if you can avoid it.
* Velux roof windows: consider leaving slightly open so the heat collecting on their internal blinds can convect up and out. Again, taping card over the outside might be a big improvement in emergency heat.
* "Swamp coolers" and "evaporative coolers" raise the humidity of air to increase heat capacity. They work, but if the humidity builds up (as in a well insulated/airtight northern-clime building..) you'll raise the wet-bulb temperature and have a bad day. Use in well ventilated spaces to let the humidity escape. Using a regular fan and a wet towel will probably work better overall.
* Air conditioners become a big-picture problem for civic planners during heat emergencies - if you must rely on one, try to use it in a designated already-cool "recovery room" and keep it as insulated and airtight as possible. Only set the thermostat as low as you need to recover: e.g. the "sleep comfortably withiut blankets" temperature. Lower is wasteful unless you're treating heatstroke or an at-risk person.
