yesterday I've drafted a suitable womanswear trousers block. I've printed it out, so that I can start making a quick mockup before converting it into a jeans pattern¹ with all of the fiddly bits.
this morning I'm supposed to start doing that mockup.
and here I am, writing stuff on the fediverse.
I'm not starting very well, right?

ieri ho disegnato un modello base di pantaloni adatto. l'ho stampato per poter fare un mockup veloce prima di convertirlo in modello per jeans¹ con tutti i pezzetti che vanno per ogni dove.
stamattina volevo iniziare a fare quel mockup.
e sono qui a cazeggiare sul fediverso.
non sto iniziando molto bene, vero?

il mockup è stato fatto, provato, fatti gli aggiustamenti dovuti sul modello.
E adesso posso procrastinare le modifiche al cartamodello per aggiungere i pezzettini.

And this means I had no excuse, and the mockup has been done, tried on, fixes have been done. you (me) see: there was no need to procrastinate :D
and now I can procrastinate on the fiddly bits of the pattern :D

all of the fiddly bits of the pattern have been drafted. a pattern with my measurements has been printed. currently cutting and gluing it.
the part down there in the front is BIG. it takes TWO A4 pages.
and I can fit my hand with all fingers spread out in it!
(of course I'm talking about the pattern for the front pockets)

tutti i pezzetti del cartamodello sono stati disegnati, ho stampato la versione con le mie misure, la sto tagliando e incollando.
la parte lì sul davanti è GROSSA. servono DUE fogli A4.
e ci sta tutta la mano con le dita aperte!
(ovviamente sto parlando del cartamodello delle tasche davanti)

I know, I'm supposed not to buy more fabric, but
a) I have a serious lack of trousers
b) the cotton linen I'm using was cheap enough to be used for a wearable mockup, and will probably be useful during the worst of summer, but at 200 g/m² is way too lightweight for a pair of jeans-like trousers.
I really hope I have found a dependable source of denim, but I'll find out when it arrives.
technically I've also started sewing, but that was just a couple of seams on the back pockets while I had 10 minutes to spare.

e poi potrei aver comprato dell'altra stoffa.
anche se in teoria mi ero ripromessa di non farlo, ma
a) ho una grave carenza di pantaloni
b) il misto lino che sto usando era abbastanza economico da poter essere usato per un mockup indossabile, e probabilmente verrà comodo in piena estate, ma 200g/m² sono veramente troppo pochi per un paio di jeans.
Spero caldamente di aver trovato un fornitore da cui comprare jeans (la stoffa, non i pantaloni), ma immagino che lo scoprirò quando arriverà quello ordinato.
E tecnicamente ho anche iniziato a cucire, ma ho fatto solo un paio di cuciture sulle tasche posteriori mentre avevo 10 minuti di attesa tra una cosa e l'altra.

(linea tratteggiata azzurra, dopo la freccia rossa)

in reply to Elena ``of Valhalla'' • •The jeans have been almost completely done, I've tried them on and they fit. and I mean *fit*. they are a tiny bit *too* curve-following around the hips, which makes me conflicted between considering them really nice and wanting to make them a bit *less*.
Also, I needed to add a cm or two more to the big bum adjustment; I've done that, and added a little bit of ease on the hips and printed a new pattern.
Now, my denim seems to be lost somewhere near Bielefeld, but I'm confident it will be delivered soon and I have absolutely no doubt that it does exist. :D

in reply to Elena ``of Valhalla'' • •I jeans sono stati quasi completati, li ho trovati e mi stanno a pennello. Fin troppo. Sono belli aderenti sui fianchi, e adesso ho un conflitto interiore tra apprezzare la cosa e volerli rendere un pelo più decenti.
Ho anche visto di dover aggiungere un paio di cm alla modifica per il culone, l'ho fatto, aggiunto un minimo di agio sui fianchi e stampato un nuovo cartamodello.
Adesso il mio jeans sembra perso da qualche parte vicino a Bielefeld, ma sono tranquilla che arriverà e non ho nessun dubbio sulla sua esistenza, perché mai dovrei :D
(la prossima volta devo cercare un negozio in Molise :D )

it has also been washed, and is currently drying: I hope tomorrow it will be ready for cutting (but I'm not overly confident it will, after just a winter night, unless we get some wind).

è anche stato lavato e sta asciugando: spero che domani sia pronto da tagliare (ma non ci conto troppo, dopo essere rimasto steso solo una notte invernale, a meno che si alzi il vento).

and now I have two nicely folded cuts of denim, ready to be used, and I've also already cut a full set of pieces for a pair of jeans.

of course not. they are finished enough that I'm going to wear them today, but they are still missing the belt loops (that I forgot to cut, uooops).
Now I plan to wear these to check that I'm completely happy with the fit, and next week cut the other denim for another pair; when I'll do that I'll also think about these belt loops. I hope.
I am starting to be tired of working on jeans and want to do other things, but I think I can keep at it for another short while.

Ovvio che no. Sono al punto in cui oggi li indosserò, ma mancano ancora i passanti per la cintura (che mi son dimenticata di tagliare, uooops).
Adesso il piano è di indossare questi per qualche giorno, per essere sicura del modello, e settimana prossima tagliare l'altro jeans per farne un secondo paio; a quel punto taglierò anche i passanti per questi. Spero.
Sto iniziando ad essere un po' stanca di cucire jeans e ho voglia di fare altro, ma credo di riuscire a fare un'ultimo sforzo.

in reply to Sibylle • •@Sibylle I have a singer heavy duty, so yes, it's a regular sewing machine, but on the stronger end of regular sewing machines
each belt loop is 3 layers, folded down, so that's 6 layers of denim, and then there are 1 layer or two or denim, or 1 layer of denim and two of pocketing, depending on the position.

e sì, io credo che per il 2024 continuerò non con un “niente acquisti”, perché so di non farcela, ma con la stessa policy del 2023: posso comprare solo
* merceria ed eventualmente stoffe extra (tipo fodere) per poter realizzare cose per cui ho già la stoffa principale
* stoffe per cui ho già il cartamodello pronto per fare cose che mi servono *davvero* (e i jeans erano in questa categoria. ok, forse non me ne serivivano 4 paia, ma l'alternativa erano 2 paia e due pezzetti da mezzo metro di avanzo che si sarebbe accumulato nello stash)

Nella foto è la stoffa più chiara.
La parte più scura è quella che si vede dall'esterno dei jeans, e deve essere fatta della stessa stoffa del resto dei pantaloni (soprattutto per estetica, ma anche per funzionalità, a seconda della stoffa che si sta usando per i pantaloni). Nella foto è la parte nera
Nella parte che rimarrà libera viene cucita alla base di materiale per tasche, gli altri lati vengono imbastiti, ma poi verranno tenuti assieme dalle cuciture del fianco e della cintura, che sono anche ciò che tiene stabilmente attaccata la tasca ai pantaloni.

Unknown parent • •Now, the things that were missing were a button and belt loops, so this morning I decided to quickly add those. I opted for a snap button rather than a traditional jeans one plus buttonhole, so it would have been just a matter of minutes, right?
It wasn't. So I decided to listen to something while I was working, which prompted the emergency soldering of a new audio cable, followed by more swearing at a snap button followed after maybe a hour an an half by a pair of trousers with a button on them.
I'm not going to sew the belt loops today. They can wait.

in reply to Elena ``of Valhalla'' • •Le cose che mancavano erano un bottone e i passanti per la cintura, quindi stamattina ho deciso di finirli al volo. Ho deciso di mettere un automatico anziché il bottone tradizionale da jeans con l'occhiello, quindi è questione di minuti, giusto?
No. Quindi ho deciso di ascoltare qualcosa mentre lavoravo, il che ha causato la saldatura di emergenza di un nuovo cavo audio, seguito da ulteriori imprecazioni contro il bottone e dopo qualcosa come un'ora e mezza finalmente ho un paio di pantaloni dotati di bottone.
I passanti possono aspettare.
