That one time I made this #Edwardian blouse by sewing together pieces of embroidered cotton batiste by hand with 2-3mm seam allowances or felled seams when I wanted the pattern to meet very nicely. Straight seams by machine and all finishing by hand, if I recall! It took a long time but was very satisfying.

I also made the hat. The hat also took forever and was quite satisfying but there are pretty much no photos of the process because getting photos of black velvet is kind of a hassle

I have located TWO photos of making the hat!

I sewed it pretty much by hand because it was quite unwieldy due to its size. There's a sinamay hat base I steamed into a new shape under all the velvet, which I just draped on and pleated down into pleasant little patterns. The flat crin tubing is simulating feathers and moves in a dainty way when walking, it's nice.

I made a whole bunch of Edwardian lingerie and layers that year. Also this little camisole. They didn't have zigzag back then, but I wanted it to be able to withstand the laundry machine a bit better, and nobody could ever really make it out at a distance. The little pintucks already took long enough and I didn't feel like more hand felling!

@valhalla Indeed! "I could do this by machine and it would be fine. But I can also spend hours doing it by hand just to show off, and that's the true Edwardian way isn't it" πŸ˜„β€‹

Also the hat that is wider than my shoulders, I felt it was very accurate.

@Holir_ Thank you! I was probably wearing dinosaur socks at the time πŸ˜„β€‹

Ahhhh. The complete look then! iirc Edwardian's were kinda big into Dinos

@Holir_ I'm unsure but I think there was a boom of palaeontology around the turn of the century, right before Egyptomania in the 1920s πŸ€”β€‹
