My best friend is at a nursing home with a brain tumor. His family asked me to turn his TV into a picture frame when it is not in use. I'v set up an old Intel NUC with #opensuse and #Syncthing to maintain a folder with pictures to be displayed. Can anyone suggest a good #slideshow program?
It must support smooth transitions and automatic startup, and be able to detect if new content is added or removed from the folder. #linux #photography #recommendations

@Klaus Vink Slott I've used impressive¹ with nice results, but I'm not sure it supports detecting new content, so that part would probably need to be added through some inotify magic?

@valhalla Nice one. Thank you. I've tested it and it looks really promising. I can configure nice, smooth transitions and set the timing as I wish. I have to do some more testing, such as ensuring that it does not crash if a picture is removed during a show, and finding a solution for adding new pictures.
