Meanwhile, in sewing land: Unpicking the hem from a curtain so I can shorten it up a little bit. And then I'll have to re-measure it and re-hem it, and sewing curtains is possibly the most tedious sewing task you could possibly do. It's unwieldy, it's boring and it's somewhat precise. Terrible! Terrible!

Anyway, I've been putting this off for months if not a year or more, and I gotta.

fortunately, unlike children, walls and windows rarely grow up much, so you don't have to re-hem and shorten or lengthen the curtains very often.
in reply to Sini Tuulia

I hate sewing curtains so fucking much. You stop paying attention for one single second and then they're on the floor, and because cats, no longer clean. And it's so boring! So boring! If I'm ever buying curtains I'm paying for them to be made to measure, this is my personal hell
in reply to Sini Tuulia

The more tedious a thing is, the more my nervous system wants me to be aware of things that don't usually matter.

"YOU ARE NOW AWARE OF THE SENSATION OF YOUR RIGHT SOCK SITTING HIGHER THAN YOUR LEFT. Also your hair lies flat a different direction than it should, and this itches."

in reply to Sini Tuulia

Augh, the sock thing is so awful! Why do our brains do that?

I always wonder how normal people (eg. my family here) can use mix-matched socks. I mean left different than right. It's... wow. How can one live with that? :blob_aww: :villasukat:
in reply to Maria Carole

@MariaCalendula It didn't use to bother me so much, when I had a million different black socks and couldn't be bothered to properly marry them... Now? Terrible. πŸ˜“ Cannot!
in reply to Sini Tuulia

It's the feeling. If the socks are mismatched, they feel different. Auch.
in reply to Maria Carole

@MariaCalendula All of my socks are colourful now, so I can have them match every time. There's still these two pairs of black knee socks that I sometimes mismatch on accident and it's terrible

In any case, 50% of task done. One curtain is up, since I have to wash the other one that was already up, it's covered in city particles and cat hair.

I'm not entirely sure why I hung only one up the last time, but could guess that I went through this and went "fuck it, one curtain is enough" and left the other one to await until I could be bothered. Thanks, Sini of the Past. :blob_melt:

Such a pitty we live so far away. I could totally do your curtains in exchange for some progress on walking skirt I'm procastinating forever πŸ˜†
in reply to Sini Tuulia

And I probably don't even need all of it done for me, just some part so that it feels already started.
in reply to Sini Tuulia

I will light a candle for you. I made curtains once and will never do it again.
in reply to kamikat

@kamikat Thank you. I've managed one, the other is still washing and will be the trials of tomorrow at the earliest...

Disproportionately an ordeal

@Sini Tuulia @Chris πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆπŸ§΅πŸ§πŸΌ I would like to have some nice new curtains for the new house

almost all of the windows are door-sized, giving access to balconies etc.

my mother's old curtains from ikea are perfectly fine, and they aren't that bad, even if they are not all the same length and the fabric is off-the-grain :D

in reply to Elena ``of Valhalla''

@valhalla This pair of curtains is originally from Ikea and they're fine, but also 20cm too long... Without re-hemming they're just long enough to gather all of the cat hair and stop the radiators under the windows from properly working. It's fairly demotivating to turn them just that 20cm!
