I mainly use #Jabber๏ปฟ/๏ปฟ#XMPP since โ‰ˆ2014, before Matrix was born, but thanks to the #slidge gateway, I use the latter, too, with #Gajim.

@Christian I've self-hosted xmpp for a few years and it's one of the easiest services to self-host on a small scale: low (computer) resources and low (human) effort.

The last time I looked into self-hosting matrix it was pretty bad on both, at least in comparison.
