Haha, I'm anti, although you do you, naturally!! I do most of my sewing around quilters and the amount of time and money that they spend on their craft is rather horrifying. Also, there is a limit to how many blankets any family requires.
Actually, I know a professional quilter who makes her own patterns, and she'll make several thousand dollars off of just one of her quilts, so she doesn't actually keep all of them for her family. If you have the right connections, you can make a pretty penny doing that. And it's not all blankets--you can make clothing, wall hangings, placemats, mug rugs, & all kinds of other things. It's pretty cool! 😄
My practical side says to me that the most lovely piecework quilts aren’t that warm on cold Canadian winters but there’s always someone who wants another cozy throw or sweater.
@AlsoPaisleyCat Sometimes, I think that "practical" is my only side! I do have stacks and stacks of scraps and plan to eventually patch myself a crazy lapquilt since I always want a warm lap and I'd like to see a bunch of my lovely fabrics more frequently.
@Michelle / The Giddy Stitcher yes, but only in the traditional way where you reuse scraps of fabric from other projects (and I've seen that you have already mentioned those in the thread).
Which is what I'm trying to do, except for the fact that my scraps aren't in fabric that is really suitable for quilting, aaaaargh :D
@valhalla Thankfully a lot of mine are, but if you come up with any good uses for the rest of them please do share because the storage situation is becoming critical 😅

Do it so I can live vicariously through you 😅 I can't possibly take on another craft and I don't have a sewing machine, but dang, those quilt designs on Etsy are so tempting.

@nightstitching It would definitely take longer, but you can hand piece scraps into a small quilt design and use it for a mug rug, a placemat, an accent piece on a table, etc. Certain batting are also made to resist heat, so you could make potholders. Quilted Christmas ornaments are really pretty too. Not all quilted projects have to be large to be pretty and/or practical.

Some projects don't even require batting. And some don't require piecing anything at all. I started learning to quilt when my mom taught me to stencil. So one of my first projects was to hand quilt around a stenciled angel. Projects don't have to be large, expensive *or* complicated; you just have to enjoy what you're doing as you do it and get creative! 😄
@Stitch26 Indeed, the enabling is the best Hahaha in currently starting to learn bobbin lacemaking and that is lovely, but oh I wanna do all the complicated projects. They're so gorgeous!
@nightstitching See? They *talk*! And *guilt trip*! And give *dirty looks*! I hate that part...but they look so pretty once we give in and *just finish the dang-blasted things*!!! 😉😄 You *do* have my sympathy though...sometimes potential projects and WIPs can be *so abusive*! 😉😄
