Crazy quilt, hobo quilt, quilt as story, quilt as protest, quilt as climate mitigation upcycling action, quilt as mutual aid, quilting as community building, quilting skill share as building autonomy, quilting as stress management, quilt the future you want to see.
Haha, I'm anti, although you do you, naturally!! I do most of my sewing around quilters and the amount of time and money that they spend on their craft is rather horrifying. Also, there is a limit to how many blankets any family requires.
My practical side says to me that the most lovely piecework quilts aren’t that warm on cold Canadian winters but there’s always someone who wants another cozy throw or sweater.
@AlsoPaisleyCat Sometimes, I think that "practical" is my only side! I do have stacks and stacks of scraps and plan to eventually patch myself a crazy lapquilt since I always want a warm lap and I'd like to see a bunch of my lovely fabrics more frequently.
@Michelle / The Giddy Stitcher yes, but only in the traditional way where you reuse scraps of fabric from other projects (and I've seen that you have already mentioned those in the thread).
Which is what I'm trying to do, except for the fact that my scraps aren't in fabric that is really suitable for quilting, aaaaargh :D
@valhalla Thankfully a lot of mine are, but if you come up with any good uses for the rest of them please do share because the storage situation is becoming critical 😅
* stashing them indefinitely because MY PRECIOUSSSES * using them to make accessories that match the main garment (hats, gloves, but also underwear with the knits) * using them to repair or adapt the garment to a new body size * using the tiny (anything less than two of my standard sewing allowances) scraps as stuffing * have I mentioned stashing all the things?
(yeah, my storage situation isn't exactly *solved* either :D )
Do it so I can live vicariously through you 😅 I can't possibly take on another craft and I don't have a sewing machine, but dang, those quilt designs on Etsy are so tempting.
@nightstitching @valhalla Yeah I'm thinking this might be a Christmas holidays thing for me, when I actually have time to breathe and focus on something new.
Will report back with results and maybe you'll find time one day too! ♥️
@Stitch26 Indeed, the enabling is the best Hahaha in currently starting to learn bobbin lacemaking and that is lovely, but oh I wanna do all the complicated projects. They're so gorgeous!
@Stitch26 oh dear, oh dear, why would you say that 😩 I don't have enough hours in a day! (I'm definitely NOT staring wistfully at the box of English paper piecing hexagons in my craft room... 🥺)
you’ve already gotten so many encouraging responses, but I wanted to add one more “yes, do!” to the mix. There’s such a supportive quilting community here on Mastodon and we’ll all have your back. Can’t wait to see what you’ll create!
@inarticulatequilter Indeed, I love looking at the cool things you all make even if I've got no idea how it works. So this poll is basically all your fault, is what I'm saying 😂

in reply to Michelle / The Giddy Stitcher • • •I have a sister and sister in law who both quilt.
Not for me; don't get the cutting fabric into millions of small pieces then sewing it back together!
The thought!!!
