Son lived in the US for 18 months and would have killed for a sausage, Aussie style. They only have European style wurst, or franks. And side note: no meat pies! I MEAN, come on!
Aside from when the COALition tried to disenfranchise certain minorities, and the gerrymandering - and #AdvanceAustralia's antics - voting is reasonably convivial. Our Election Day is ALWAYS on a Saturday, not a weekday. School and Church Halls are co-opted for polling stations, so stalls are set up for extra fundraising. Except for the occasional Referendum, voting is not cluttered up with Resolutions or Propositions. We do not vote for Governors, or Judges, or Attorneys, or Sheriffs, etc. City and town councils are voted on separately, as are States, and Federal. Most importantly...no one gets arrested for giving water to people queing to vote.
@Tom Roberts I suspect that voting in any other relatively democratic and stable-ish country is a far more fun and enjoyable event than voting in the US.
I mean, I wouldn't say that voting in Italy is *fun*, and we would need a lot of improvements on the voting system, but at least the act is usually quick and painless, and happens around the weekend (sometimes it's on Sunday, sometimes is on Sunday and Monday morning¹, sometimes Saturday and Sunday).
¹ IMHO the best option, since a lot of shops (that may be open on Sunday) are closed on Monday morning

And that's just the beginning. We've also got a preferential voting system, compulsory voting, Antony Green, a stable democracy...
I mean someone really should let them know.

in reply to Tom Roberts • • •Preferential voting:
“This candidate won the majority of the primary vote!”
“So that means they win the seat, right?”
“Lol, no”
