The first leaves are out on the maple tree, the cat has stretched out on the floor, and my layers include neither flannel nor wool. Spring is here! (Just don't look at the weather forecast.) #spring #weather #trees #cats #clothes
I mean, I see Spring all around me in the flowers and weather but the dates don’t work with the astronomical definition of Spring’s beginning which is the Vernal Equinox (as I’m sure you know).
Since Spring is a human invention anyway trying to catalogue what we see in the world and split it evenly (which never works with the real world) I guess it doesn’t matter 😂
@SimonCHulse I tend to stick to experiential rather than astronomical seasons. The degrees that impact me most directly are the ones on the thermometer, not the ones on the earth's tilt.
@Deborah Makarios @Ko Simon toku ingoa :tinoflag: isn't meteorological spring a thing also over there? under that definition (the 1st of the month where the astronomical season start) it would be already “officially” spring.
here in the north of Italy they tend to apply quite decently to the perceived weather.
i mean, I wasn’t excluding the third option, the one you call “experiential.” That makes more sense than both of the other two combined, but it’s not an official option.
Calendar: Lining it up with the first day of a month which has no relationship to the planet at all and is totally arbitrary.
Astronomical: at least this lines up with an observable thing to do with our planet.
Experiential: even better than both because you can actually see it, but also not one of the official two options.
@valhalla @SimonCHulse We have meteorological spring, but we also have very unstable weather, not being anywhere near a continent. NZ is famous for having "four seasons in a day".

because having it line up with an astronomical event makes much more sense 😂
