todayβs #AltTxt #yaddayadda:
β Time for your annual reminder that, according to A Christmas Carol, Bob Cratchit makes 15 shillings a week.
Adjusted for inflation, that's $530.27/wk, $27,574/yr, or $13.50/ hr.
Most Americans on minimum wage earn less than a Dickensian allegory for destitution. β

in reply to your auntifa liza π΅π· π¦ 𦦠• •@your auntifa liza π΅π· π¦ 𦦠to be pedantic, I think that the hourly wage would have been lower, since at the time A Christmas Carol was published working days were significantly longer (I'm not sure about clerks, but industrial workers had 60 to 96 hours weeks, rather than the 40 hours week used in the calculation).
still the yearly wage should compare correctly, I think
