I joined #mastodon last week, on a whim, with no idea what to expect

Minutes later, I was welcomed by @dillyd which has never happened on any other platform and was a wonderful introduction. So I posted a couple pictures of my #cats, and found, to my surprise, people reacting and interacting

Maybe it's because I'm not fighting an algorithm, or maybe I just found a place where folks truly appreciate cats. Either way, I'm very happy to be here, and I hope you're prepared for more cat pictures

Hey, welcome! =^.^= Yeah, it's really chill here.

Gargron (guy who started Mastodon-the-software, but doesn't run it very well) keeps trying to kill the local timeline and instances-as-communities, but like, they're /super/ important. I don't know how you'd even get anyone to notice you when you join without a local TL (*waves confused paw at Twitter/Bluesky*).

We run our own instance so our local TL is literally just me, and we're not widely federated so even our federated TL doesn't have much beyond people we know, but. We started on a normal instance.

Oddly enough, I used to know a cat called Rufus. Even more oddly, he was black not ginger.
But then I had a cat called Tabitha who was a tortoiseshell. I don't know why she was Tabitha, that was her name when she came to live with me.
Abby says Hullo. She too arrived with her name, but I can guess at its origin.
