A lot of folks don't seem to enjoy audiobooks. I'm curious. If you don't enjoy audiobooks, do you also avoid author readings? Podcasts? Radio? #audiobooks #podcasts #radio #reading #performance
@thegiddystitcher do you watch movies or speak with folks? I'm curious where the cut-off point is for folks. For thousands of years, storytelling was done orally rather than through the written world. I see a huge shift in how people prefer their stories now.
It's pretty rare I'll just sit and watch a film on purpose as well, tbh. There's often one on in the room I'm in, but that's not the same thing!
I think in general it's just, if there's a quiet way to do the thing I'll automatically prefer that. Sometimes there's not a quiet option, but in book vs audiobook there is so I choose that 🤷♀️
@Shantell Powell I mostly avoid all audio-only media because it takes me a significant effort to follow them, so it's something I only do if it's really interesting and there are no other options. They definitely require me to be doing something relatively mindless with my hands, however (such as knitting, handsewing, etc.)
I can however listen to video with subtitles while doing things and not constantly watching the subtitles (but I do glance at them every time I've missed a word or something).
I also routinely watch videos without doing other things, either with visual content or just some person talking. I still prefer to have subtitles on.
I also talk with people, and it's something that I enjoy, but is also a pretty tiring activity, so I need some rest time afterwards.
