It has come to my attention that my favourite jacket is falling apart. I would like to repair it for two reasons:
- I love this jacket.
- I can't afford a new one right now.
I have no opposition to #VisibleMending.

in reply to Jonathan Lamothe • • •Either a parachute stitch (but given that there stitching already on one edge it might be unpleasant to do) or a canvas patch (preferably both inside and outside) and running stitch embroidery to keep them in place. Colours and designs of your choice.

but I'm not sure it would last long, if the rip is because it's a high friction area, maybe you'd need something stronger than bias tape

Your idea works too, but it requires more skill and time.
