The gathers at the top of the sleeve should be set into a space exactly the same as the wristband, to make it lie flat also.These little attentions are a great assistance to the washer-woman.

I think to limit all those useful infos to just women (and specifically workwomen!) is a waste of knowledge…

the amount of *-ism in that book is just as can be expected from a book of the early 1800 that is meant to be used when teaching the poor so that they can become exploitable domestic workers.

But then, it was the early 1800s, it's not like one could expect anything better.

And for people who are interested in historical clothing, it's full of useful bits.
