I don't know what I've been waiting for (divine inspiration perhaps?) but I'm just going to dive head first into this - to me - new platform and introduce myself:
Hi!
I'm Mette, and yes, that's a hard name for anyone to say outside my own country of Denmark, so don't worry, I respond to a wide variety of noises that approximate it
I write medieval historical fiction and grimdark fantasy and I'm so excited to be here š hoping to inspire and be inspired in turn

I've heard the name Mette before, but the term grimdark was new to me. I'll go with the context though and probably get close.
My name is Monte, which is surely WAY more common than Mette, but so many people can't manage it wrap their mouth around it, despite their familiarity with Monty Python. I empathize.

Grimdark is a sub-genre to epic fantasy where all hope is lost and the characters are more morally grey than usual - think dystopian with monsters and magic and you're close to the vibe

Welcome, welcome.
Pull a stump or whatever you find. Here's some drink. There's a platter of snacks going around, keep an eye out.
The guys at the corner, muttering by themselves are kinda weird, but sometimes they ave good jokes.
Oh, mind the cables. And, for the love of anything, do NOT poke that thing over there.

I'll be joining the guys in the corner š (can't help it, I wanna poke the thing...)

My writing has a fantasy flare. I have a typical epic fantasy with a touch of grim and a strong found family plot. Iām currently querying a modern detective fantasy story and drafting a historical fiction with supernatural elements based on local folklore.
Mette Holm
in reply to Emma Cox • • •Your current projects sound really interesting, I hope your query is successful

in reply to Mette Holm • • •thanks! There's a lot of folklore specific to Cornwall, but much also overlaps or feels familiar to other Celtic countries. I can understand why many feel frustrated when their cultural folklore and mythology is turned into fiction. But I feel I can write about my own.
My elements of grim are war and discrimination. And I keep things pretty real. I'm not the author you want to read if you're expecting the cute dog and the kid to survive because *gestures at what's happening in Gaza*

in reply to Mariam al-Masri • • •@mariam_al_masri_author I am published, I've got 6 books out in historical fiction, writing the 7th in that series as we speak - and another 8-book series in grimdark fantasy
Publishing is always daunting, especially if you go indie as I have, so feel free to ask questions if you've got any, I'll be happy to help
I'll also be happy to beta-read your story, when you get to that stage and if you're interested
