XMPP is too minimalistic for my needs. I have little use for ephemeral chats because I read and write in bursts when I'm feeling into it. I use matrix like a shitty forum + social platform + IM + group chat. Without community spaces, persistent logs, edits, reactions and such I just wouldn't use it for anything but occasional tech-support or something.

Ok. Yes, you lose the editing and reactions when you come in over XMPP. I wish XMPP would add that.

afaik editing the last post is supported in XMPP (at least in Conversations, older clients see a repeated message).

I believe that editing previous posts has not been implemented by choice, to avoid confusing situations.

Reactions are the ability to attach an emoji to somebody else's text. It's available on IM platforms like Elements, Mattermost and Slack, and on microblog platforms like Misskey, Pleroma and Facebook.

I looked for a reactions XEP but only found some draft without a number, glad to see it was my search skills that failed, and glad to see people talking about real-world implementation.
