Is it just me, or is has an ocean of AI slop subsumed all human produced (i.e. actually useful) content when one is looking for detailed technical info on a given subject? Trying to find good info on the kinds of adjustments that I routinely make to my industrial sewing machines has become a nightmare! Almost all results are some wordy blog post/article that looks suspiciously like the last wordy blog post/article in a cookie cutter layout with little to no real information.

yep. I've taken to using Kagi for searches and also specifying the date range in the search to end Dec 2023 if I need to find anything specific that's not new. It seems like anything newer has a high likelihood of being tainted.

@James True fact: I've seen folks mention Kagi here and there and thought it was a game. I thank you both for the context clues and the tip!

@James I've been using Kagi for months and it's leaps ahead of any other search engine. Limiting the search to 2023 is a great idea!! I will be using that in the future

@motoridersd @James I miss the days when DuckDuckGo got the job done, but it seems increasingly powerless to stem the tide of AI slop results.

@motoridersd @James
You can at least do 'noai.duckduckgo.com' to have it not add -addtional- AI slop to the search results.

But yeah it's pretty awful all around. Frustration is high.

No, it's not just you. I try to minimise that by trying to find original manuals (archive?, including "manual" in the search...) but actual technical -simple, with no blah, blah- information is getting more and more difficult to find, only prejudice-repeating-machines (AI). Getting my overlock manual was very difficult (1960 Rimoldi)
in reply to Caius Pupus

@CaiusPupus I’ve copies of the original manuals for all of my machines. The manuals for the industrial models contain plenty of info on *how* to make adjustments to all of their esoteric little parts. What they often lack is the critical details of how to know when the adjustment is made correctly. Thus my need for first hand knowledge from those who have done those things themselves.
in reply to Elena ``of Valhalla''

@valhalla On many topics, I agree that this is true. I observe, however, that affecting fine adjustments to 70 year old industrial sewing machines is not one of those topics.
