Did you know that "opleiden" in Dutch means "supposed to be a Fenian outrage"?
in reply to Trammell Hudson

Since it comes up all the time in normal conversations, Dutch also has a single word that means "If ordered from port of call to the Continent, 6d. extra per quarter grain or seed, and 3/6 extra per ton tallow for stowage goods".

@valhalla the problem with unicode is that the SHIP section is very short and does not have have a way to easily send "ARRIVED HERE AT —, ENCOUNTERED A SEVERE GALE AND HEAVY SEAS, WHICH CARRIED AWAY BOATS AND WHEEL, STANCHIONS AND BULWARKS, BROKE MAST AND JIB-BOOM, ALL SAILS GONE"
in reply to Trammell Hudson

@Trammell Hudson right. and I think it doesn't have have a way to easily send a message if the ship is stuck on the risen continent of Atlantis. Does the ABC?
in reply to Elena ``of Valhalla''

I like the implication that All of the Cool Kids (firms) use *UNICODE*

"
with a list of prominent commercial firms who are Unicode users
"

Perhaps the next version will better accommodate the messages you two have.

idea: a social network where you can only post using the ABC Universal Commercial Electric Telegraphic Code
in reply to ranjit

@ranjit will you also allow messages compressed with the Code Condenser? Only $3 for two copies.
in reply to Trammell Hudson

That's a different instance. The two can federate with each other but they have a hard time understanding each other, kinda like oulipo.social and dolphin.town.
