I have been ordering from DigiKey and they've always shipped from the United States (apparently when ordering from the Canadian site it's perfectly normal that they would ship from the United States, at least that seems like their attitude). My understanding about why they are doing this, is they don't have to deal with taxes and duty this way.
Previous orders, this has been "not a big deal, a bit of a pain, but not really a big deal". This time (split order) it's been a really very significant difference. The first part of the order was something like 36% border fees.
I've tried to find a Canadian place, and probably have found a couple of reasonable alternatives, but I'd really like to ask if anyone has some good electronics shipping from Canada.
I get to some degree, it just doesn't really make sense to try to do that, as most of the manufactures are based in the United States. Even Canadian electronics companies, that are "manufacturers" are to some degree dealing with having to get stuff from the United States.
Anyway, if you have a place to look at I'd love to hear. Thanks. #AskingFediverse #AskingFedi

in reply to Jigme Datse • •@Jigme Datse aren't the typical items bought from DigiKey manifactured in China anyway?
Sadly I've just checked the bag of my usual distributor of electronic components, and it does list a subsidiary in North America, but it's in the USA too :(
boosting in the hope that somebody else has alternatives

in reply to cate • •@cate in the EU I'm quite happy with tme.eu , btw
outside of the EU they seem to have subsidiaries only in UK, USA and China, however. unless they have new ones, and they haven't added them yet to the bags they use to ship small components (of which there is currently a convenient pile on my desktop) :D

They claim 'customs clearance fees' that don't actually exist.
FedEx never does this. The postal service never does this.
There are no duties on computers or electronic components.
Source: ran a freight shed for years with both. Also, even further back, I simply got a customs license from the feds for next to nothing to avoid the bastards and 'cleared' my own stuff for nothing.
