@mirabilos Oh, they do try! For several reasons I am just not documenting it on the internet πβ
This boy here, Karvinen, is the lightest and smallest of my cats. He's a little under 6kg and the other two have put on their winter weight, so who knows how much they are currently!
@mirabilos My parents's red cat will often open the bathroom door, jump on your lap and start kneading. All of this while I'm trying to pee π Sometimes he'll open the door and discover me washing my hands or face and he'll meow at me, very disappointed. @sinituulia
@daisy @mirabilos Ha! πβ I often have to tell Karvinen not to climb my shoulder before my hands are dry, because the bathroom counter is a good height for him to clamber up my back unannounced when I'm washing my hands.
He can also open doors and yells a lot as he's doing it, so when I'm alone I simply do not bother closing doors
my in-lawβs cat Gibbie is also a shoulder cat. Though he doesnβt give me kisses (luckily! iirc cat dander allergies like mine can be triggered by their saliva)
Sorry for lack of alt-text on these. They are four photos of a grey and white cat standing on my shoulder. I'm a white non-binary person with thick rimmed glasses and a beard.
@deetlebee As far as I understand it the cat proteins are present both in their saliva (which coats all their fur also, which is why cat hair is bad too) and their dander!
@Sini Tuulia I really loved when my old cat climbed my back and her claws just touched my skin enough that I could feel it (without the skin breaking), it really helped with the neck stiffness too!
(the t-shirts I was wearing back then didn't like it as much, but whatever)
@valhalla I feel like Karvinen in general makes my body release all kinds of feel-good pack bonding hormones, especially when he wants to be carried on my hip like a literal baby. πβ
I specifically make all my shirts with a double layer upper back yoke because that's where all the cats grab on and make tiny holes in the fabric!

Youβll have a purring warm shawl that cleans your hair.
Thankfully my black and a bit white cat is only 3 kgβ¦
