in reply to James Mullarkey • •Actually, those 3 checks are sensible, it's just that I don't think I've ever heard of a smart device sold anywhere that would collect a yes on all 3 questions, so…
(and even if there was one, I'm not sure it would pass:
* is it full of trivial-to-exploit vulnerabilities that will never be fixed?
* is it going to become useless when (not if) the producer will stop supporting it in 6 months - 2 years?

I think both mycroft and snips open source voice assistants can be installed on raspberry pi and used without connection to the Internet at all.
It's possible to meet these simple steps.
