I dread moving, even though I've done it over 20 times in the last 25 years and I should be good at it by now.

Packing up and cleaning the old home is a task that kind of asymptotically goes toward the finished state. Every piece of effort you resolve reveals more effort behind it.

I try to solve this by amortizing the move over time so that full anxiety doesn't have to hit and I don't have to push myself to do the impossible and finish everything in one day. But because of that asymptote I still end up pulling an all-nighter to meet the deadline.

All my Stuff is gone from the old place. It is literally unbelievable and I know I will be running in circles double-, triple- and quadruple-checking that statement before I close the door for good.

Now "only" the cleaning left.

I didn't allow myself to bring a big stack of boxes into my new home, that's part if why it took time too.

The only boxes now are the ones that were never unpacked in the old home. Everything else I've been forcing myself (by not getting more boxes) to pack, move, unpack.

Most of the stuff in the boxes can probably be discarded if I didn't have a reason to unpack it for two years. But I won't just throw it away unseen. πŸ˜…

Some of it isn't mine either.

Tomorrow when all of this is done and there is nothing more I can do about it, I will sleep better, function better at work, fill in my various address updates and do my taxes.

This has been a big dark cloud hanging over me, but I'm super happy with how the new place has turned out, and I have a much more approachable and helpful landlord too.

Woohoo all done, keys returned, another tiny era is behind me.

I just finished today's last meeting and was feeling weirdly hungry ... then I realized of course I'm hungry, I used the lunch break to finish the cleaning!

With all of work at home and interactive work at work done, I will get some bread and cookies in my belly, and then I will enjoy a well-earned beer and catch up on a week of emails that have been stacking up for unrelated reasons, just a lot to do at once at work as well these two weeks.

@MArtin I don't think I acquired them personally. I moved to this city 2010 the first time, 2017 the second time, and I would not have brought shot glasses over. They have appeared in my home somehow. 🀣
