I've had to laugh at all the young (to me) people claiming they could never write a novel if they didn't have a computer to write it on. Their hands would cramp. They think faster than they can write.
All I can say is, if you didn't know computers existed, you would write however you could. That's what all the people before you did. And their hands cramped, and they thought as fast as you do.
I spent most of my life with a huge callus on the second finger of my right hand that I got from writing, so huge that my finger looked deformed. You would have one too. 😜 😆 👍

It's not enticing. As a medievalist, however, I know the writing I did by hand was much, much easier than that done by early scribes, who kept the pen in one hand and their penknife in the other -- to sharpen the quill and to scrape off mistakes!

in reply to Joyce Lionarons • •@Joyce Lionarons OTOH, did their hand cramp as much as it does for people today, if they had been taught the right¹ way to hold the pen (and used pens that don't require pressure)?
¹ or at least one of the right ways. and it didn't use to be taught the right way at all, but stopping teaching it at all was worse

I write completely different things by hand than by keyboard (touch typing, but I can write really quickly by hand too - not read that quickly back though lol). My mind works different, idk why. So it sounds completely plausible to me that they wouldn't think up a novel if it wasn't on the computer (or maybe think up a different one than this way)
As for typing on the phone, lol. Can't type anything longer, I forget what I was going for by the third word. Maybe because I keep going back to look at the suggested words so I don't have to type everything out, but that way it keeps yanking my mind sideways with all the idiocy it's suggesting. So I can only do short notes there.
