Finally found a clinic that offers self-paid #covid vaccination. And it's the new XBB too! I will get that and the flu shot on Saturday.

The flu shot is 350 HKD (~40 EUR) and the covid shot, whether you take the bivalent or the XBB, is 1600 HKD (~190 EUR).

I guess that's why many clinics don't carry the covid shot, most people won't pay that with their own money. My budget was "probably won't pay 3000".

A person who hasn't had covid and I got what was probably the same cold last week (not covid). I was knocked out for two days, the other person sneezed a bit.

Covid is on the rise and if I can lower the risk of getting it a third time that would be nice. I also prefer not to be a vector if I can avoid it.

> Everyone 6 months and older can get an influenza (flu) and updated COVID-19 vaccine at the same time. Invitations have now been sent by email or text message to all people registered in the Get Vaccinated system. The invite includes a direct link to book an appointment to receive your COVID-19 vaccine, your influenza vaccine, or both, depending on when you received your last dose.

β€Œ@Kermode That's fantastic!

Good timing for my flu shot: Just got the note from school that flu season is upon us, several cases recorded in schools in the city and please take precautions, measure temperature, wear mask, etc.

We will start measuring temperature every morning, but as far as other precautions go we never stopped. We're still in neverending covid season.

The reason I didn't take the flu shot earlier was that I was waiting for the company to offer it in the office as they usually do.

@Kermode @clacke: inhibited exhausted pixie dream boy πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡ͺπŸ‡πŸ‡°πŸ’™πŸ’› it's also free here in Italy, as long as you're willing to wait a month or so after the ideal time to get vaccinated, when they decide that the people who should get it because they are at high risk aren't going to, and they might as well use the vaccines they have bought.

Unless you are older, or with certain illnesses, of course, then it's free right from the beginning of the season in mid autumn.

It's a full private service and in my case it was off label because I'm younger than 65. So I was really charged 100% of the service and the medication.

So I guess the contract with the pharma is 40-50 Euros per dose. And 10-20 euros for the service in the hospital.

I forgot about it and missed my appointment, but today i
I got it done! One jab in the left arm, one in the right.

The flu one was cheaper than I thought. The XBB1.5 was ~200 USD and the flu was ~20 USD.

Covid and Flu shots are free at any pharmacy in BC e.g. the one's in supermarkets as well as the stand-alone ones.
Why does it look like there are two Chinese versions of this page C?

@Kermode It's exactly what you'd expect: The same Chinese, just written with traditional characters or simplified characters.

They don't want to alienate Taiwanese and Hongkongers, but they also don't want to be inaccessible to Mainlanders and Singaporeans.

in reply to Kermode

@Kermode It's always complicated. "Simplified Chinese" and "Traditional Chinese" aren't languages, they're just spellings. In practice, they can become more, by proxy. I don't know how the BC health department treats them. 😊
