Just remembered the occasion when my Youngest child, then aged 8, asked if petrol was vegan.
Their logic was that if it was from the crushed up remains of animals and plants, then it shouldn't be. When a vegan told them that it was ok for a vegan to use petrol they asked how long something had to be dead for before it stopped counting as animal matter.
I would just like to state for the record that the original question was posed before I had drunk any coffee at all and was what instigated the "no questions before coffee" rule.

in reply to Petra • •@Petra I think that petrol is mostly made up of *plants* that coexisted with dinosaurs, so the problem isn't really relevant.
although, some plants do get their nutrients from decomposed animal carcasses, so some dead animals are still involved?
I guess most of those animals died of natural causes, but then some may have also been killed by predators, and I don't know how that part counts
am I overthinking a question posed by an 8 year child?
