Is there any way to block or muffle the Mic on modern cell phones? Something like the equivalent of throwing tape or a post-it over cameras.
I know you can put things in faraday bags, but then you can’t use them at all. You used to be able to fool them with a cut-off headphone cord, but no more.
This seems like a question the Fediverse would enjoy thinking about.

I imagine you could put tape over it. I would expect there to be a couple of holes along the bottom edge of the phone, and I would assume one of those is the mic.

If so, I've no idea. But at least the post now makes sense (to me).

I suspect that tape over the holes would muffle it a bit, but not completely prevent it from recording intelligible audio.

You could turn your phone off (best) or reboot it, but not log in (on iOS you'll have to enter your passcode/phrase).
You can also go into Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone and restrict what applications have microphone access.
Settings → Accessibility → Siri and turn off "Always listen for “Hey Siri”

Sometimes, I miss having physical things to manipulate.

in reply to WTL • • •And when I went to check, my mic is definitely turned off for Discord on my phone. How annoying! It really is working well for me to do online joint watches and text chats for k-drama as well as an online international #korean conversation club. Not sure if there's another way to prevent it from turning on my phone mic.

I can get behind that.
