Smilodons.

The answer is to resurrect the smilodons.

(Failing that, maybe screwfly would help?)

Smilodons would also help reduce the Stalker/Hunter populations nicely as well

@Charlie Stross smilodons are cats. this plan must be approved and will not have any undesired side effect.

unless @Menhit the Menace finds out and is jealous, then scrap the plan, immediately.

Oblomov reshared this.

@Charlie Stross wait a second. now that I think about it, don't you have a king over there?

kings are natural predators of deer, aren't they?

and deer hunts are a traditional way to, say, expedite a succession, right?

Oblomov reshared this.

@valhalla Hmm, I like the way you think!

Winter is coming and we should *certainly* send King Charles III, currently aged 76 and on chemo for (unspecified) cancer to the Highlands with a bow and arrow and a horse. He can come back when he's taken a large stag.

... And in the meantime, we'll be releasing the de-extincted smilodons and following them with a reality TV film crew (in a light tank, for safety, filming via drone)

A female-chauvinist-pig band of my youth had a song that claimed that male humans were created as a stripped-down, high performance semi-human, for the specific purpose of fighting sabre-toothed tigers.

The refrain was
they're strong,
they're brave ...
they're stupid.

Bring back the tigers! All over the world!

in reply to Charlie Stross

Or get rid of the humans, and let the forest take over.

This also works as a reply to your previous post.

@theferret only so that we can give them performance reviews where we ask, are you a smilodo or a smilodon’t?
