except for the fact that I can buy an used laptop for 200 EUR, put debian on it, and get multiple years of valid life out of it, with phones they have managed to make this impossible *in software*, as an explicit choice.

Nothing has a 4a Pro phone which is their budget model

And then a 4a which is their… Budget budget model (500 dollars)

You can’t call it a “pro” phone and then claim it’s your budget model

What is Nothing’s marketing strategy? Just be as incoherent as possible while insulting your audience?

Yeahh, I don't trust them considering it's another outfit started by Carl Pei, who broke promises early on with OnePlus (ie, OnePlus 2 getting Android 7 Nougat - nope), and prices raised much higher than their initial $350 flagship.

I see it as yet another marketing-heavy brand that wants their own slice of the lucrative smartphone pie.
