I know it’s my own musical (and age-related) snobbery, but I prefer to think of them as still in the Kill ‘Em All to Master of Puppets era, when I found them exciting and (relatively) new, and certainly not the biggest band in metal.

Metallica got off to a great start but haven't aged well. Megadeth did the opposite, but unfortunately they're no longer a real band (just Mustaine and band...). Ok, no one asked about that, but I don’t care 😄 And I still think Metallica are incredibly great live.

Now, Iron Maiden with three guitarists may count as biggest band in metal, at least among the super famous ones.
