What a feeling of satisfaction after receiving a call via my own #XMPP server from my partner, who is at the time in a commercial flight. ๐Ÿ˜†

The call quality was flawless.

And no need of #bigTech!

#selfhosting

@Marcos Dione I don't know how @J๐Ÿ‘€ did it, but these days one way to do so would be to install prosody on a vps, configure a few dns records (this is the part that does need a writeup) and then follow the hints on compliance.conversations.im/ until your server is 100% compliant (and it shouldn't take long)

I have a writeup of my own server, but I need to bring it up to date for trixie (hopefully soon)

Quite similar in my case. I use Debian 13 (after migrating from 12) in a small #VPS (1GB or RAM, 1 core), #Apache2 as reverse proxy, #Prosody as #XMPP service, #Letsencrypt for the certificates, and #Coturn to support NAT traversal.

Given this is a once exercise, I have never bothered to create something like an #Ansible playbook or even a document. But if you @mdione have questions or require help, do not hesitate to contact me, preferably via my public XMPP address.
