I have photographed the things I made! Join me for a brief thread!
Remember the #CinnamonLinenJacket and the #CinnamonLinenSkirt? Here they are, also with new slimmer petticoat and Second Largest Hat, which I never previously took any good photos of.

goddammit it's incredibly impressive how you can just make things like that. Looks awesome.
in reply to Mx Amber Alex (she/it)

@amberage Thank you! I didn't always know how, and damn did it take a while to learn how to. 😆 But I am pleased, thank you!
in reply to Sini Tuulia

Impeccable silhouette, congrats! And you're wearing Bernadettes, aren't you?
in reply to merigold

@merigold Thank you! A part of me wanted to put on a bigger petticoat, but the softer, transitional line was slightly more accurate! As would a corset and some hip padding, but I am blessed with a bit of caboose of my own and the room was very warm! 😆
in reply to Sini Tuulia

@merigold And yes! I'd been eyeing them forever, thought I'd maybe never wear such a "bright" colour, got them... And then was possessed to buy some of this brown linen, also. And here we are.
in reply to Sini Tuulia

I could have worn a bigger petticoat, but since my hat is of a slightly later end of the nineteen-oughts, I only wore the slimmer one I just made. Here with gloves also, though it was way too hot indoors for them. The jacket has so many process photos in the hashtag... I'm still not super happy with how the back and back sleeves sit, but I'll take it!

Closer up look of the hat and the lace that took on a lot of time to sew on. Both on hat and jacket! My little blouse is one of the many linen ones I sewed during the winter. I happened to be wearing it, and it was the right style, so I just kept it on. 😆 Also, petticoat I finished today and one of the little corset cover tops I made earlier this year.

in reply to John McChesney-Young

@jmccyoung Thank you! Hat! 😁 It was such a struggle to make (modern buckram is horrible to sew by hand) but it did turn out alright!
in reply to Sini Tuulia

You have such lovely features and that outfit goes so well with your eyes and complexion ♥
in reply to Tired Cryptid

@bengesko Thank you, I mostly got them from my mother! The eyes are from my dad, though. 😄 With these glasses on I apparently look like my maternal grandmother, which is also fun.

I was at first hesitant about the fabric colour, but I do love it!

in reply to Hilde Austlid

@hildeaustlid Thank you and thank you. 😆

To be honest my brain was melting a bit towards the end there, after getting dressed, taking and editing the photos, and only then trying to type out the alt text... It's good to hear it wasn't terrible and was indeed enjoyable!

in reply to Sini Tuulia

I especially liked "a practical minded Edwardian sort, only up to some disruption of society probably", made me think of the novel "Proper English" by KJ Charles (recommended if you like Edwardian queer romance with murder).
in reply to Hilde Austlid

I do a little bit of sewing and costuming myself, but very much slapdash. It's fascinating to see and read about your work -- I've no ambition to try to get anywhere close to your skills, but I really like to see what's possible for someone who has spent the time to get very, very good at what she does!
in reply to Hilde Austlid

@hildeaustlid Edwardian queer romance with murder sounds pretty much perfect... I'm putting it on my list!

I'm not extremely particular about everything I make, most of my shirts have overlocking on the inside and everything... But that just means I can put that time into something else that might benefit from it, like collars and such. I think I've probably also lost all idea of what is a reasonable amount of work to put into a garment, the petticoat was like "yeah let's just make a quick little petticoat" and then I spent at least three days on just the decorative bits. 😆 Tailoring properly is one thing, but then there's spending a lot of time on the fiddly bits!

in reply to Sini Tuulia

@hildeaustlid A lot of the time I watch cosplayers in awe because they make something extremely slapdash, fast and dirty to great effect and I'm sitting there, doing some slow as heck hand finishing nobody's ever going to see!
in reply to Sini Tuulia

first one her is glorious!
Incredible that you made all this!
This is clearly the main character in a historical detective/crime story, just in the process of explaining the murder to the assembled suspects.
She knows who did it :)
in reply to Alien software, human hardware

@mavu Thank you! It sure did take a lot of time, if I had to do everything from scratch right now it would probably take months, but over the course of a year or two it doesn't feel like as much. 😆 "Ooh, I happen to have this as well..."

Ah, I wish I had a whole production squad to make silly little short films like "Sini discovers a mystery!" and then it's just answering why the clean shirt already has cat hair on it, or where the scissors went... But super dramatic!

in reply to Black Chic with the Red Truck

@ReneeWestberry Thank you! Now if I had more places to go to wearing it. 😄 At least the skirt on its own is pretty alright for just every day, lol.
in reply to Sini Tuulia

I confess I would probably shamelessly wear that petticoat and corset cover as a summer outfit… 😇
in reply to Black Chic with the Red Truck

@ReneeWestberry Definitely! I could too, though I'd spend the entire time thinking: "Little do they know I'm in underwear!" 😆
in reply to Julia

@jtheseamstress 💕
The little jacket, I didn't even set out to make it originally, and then spent ages sewing the beading on it... Not even visible in these photos. 😆 But it's there!
in reply to Sini Tuulia

I'm not really a 'clothes person' myself, but my ex most certainly was, and taught me to appreciate good style and how a person 'carries' an outfit.

This outfit I like a LOT, and you wear it well. Were I to meet a person dressed similarly I would totally have to talk to them about it!

in reply to Bytebro 🇬🇧 🇺🇦 🇬🇱

@bytebro A person should carry the outfit and not the other way around, or how does the quote go? I'm certainly more comfortable when well dressed than not!

And thank you! Relatively few people ask questions in person, but that's probably more Finns being Finns than anything. 😄

in reply to Ms. Que Banh

@PhoenixSerenity Thank you! A little outfit! A little photography! And way too much editing random crap out of the background!

Lol, one of the things I like about dressing like this (not that I've worn this outside yet, it's not the weather) is that if I have a mask on, it's one of the least boggling things for people about me... 😆

in reply to Sini Tuulia

I think a revamped N95 with a blended bronze satin & black lace overlay would look smashingly fabulous with this outfit 🙂
in reply to Ms. Que Banh

@PhoenixSerenity The EU equivalent of FFP3 I can find in my size (and locally manufactured) are always white, and they're alright, but oh how do I wish I had them in black at least... 😭 I've thought about a little cover one, just thin fabric to put on top, but I usually only remember when I'm already going out the door...
in reply to IcooIey

@IcooIey Shoes! They're such nice shoes, I paid so much money for them even on sale. 😆 But they're so pretty and actually fairly good to walk in, which isn't a given for me!

Sini Tuulia

@artcollisions I did! I wasn't ever extremely super happy with it, since the shape isn't my favourite it turns out... But to steam it into another shape I'd have to remove at least some of the decorations and haven't been arsed. 😆 It's from a costuming pattern, I'd do it again much different if I redid it.

The overlay with the lace flowers was from a tiny piece of very very expensive fabric I only got like 30cm of, and every piece of it went on the hat! The body is just random acrylic wool mix from a sale bin!

Sini Tuulia
@magdalenahai Tack tack! Sellanen tosi arkinen ja käytännöllinen kostyymi. 😆 Teoriassa kaikki vaatteita joita voisin pitää muuten vaan, mutta...
Unknown parent

Sini Tuulia
@JoscelynTransient Hats, they can be practical, but also cute! A really big hat is also marginally useful in blocking out the sun, if it has a reasonable brim shape. 😄

Sini Tuulia
@artcollisions Yeah, you see something like: "Oh heck this is 27€ per metre? I definitely don't vitally need it. But if I only get a little bit..." 😄
And thank you!

in reply to Sini Tuulia

Incredibly awesome clothes and you look amazing, too! *silent awe*
in reply to Tuula, rock hippopotamus

@Tuumaru Thank! I only ever planned to make the skirt, to go with the shoes, and here we are now. 😄 I didn't even remember at the time that the hat also had the same hues... Pays off to consistently be obsessed with the same colours and styles, I guess!
in reply to Tuula, rock hippopotamus

@Tuumaru Sometimes I wonder what my babysitter from when I was eight would think if she saw what I'm up to now... She taught me how to make clothes for Barbies! That's influence!
in reply to Tattie

@Tattie Thank you and thank you! I have no idea why it took me this long to get around to taking photos of any of it. 😆 "Ah but it's a massive hassle", I thought, and it was, but now it's done!

@GPJohnston Fashion history is a part of history, and also it's just fun! And thank you!

@caity Thank! :blob_smile_hearts:

HAT! Hat is big! I knew but I didn't realise that it could go with these, especially if styling the rest of it a bit more 1905 than 1899! Heck do I wish I could find more of the veiling easily, though, the shop in the UK I originally ordered it from doesn't do the EU currently...

Edwardian jazz hands would have been a good descriptor in the alt text, lol. 😆

@kamikat Thank you! There's a couple of things I'd have done differently if I had to do it again (Isn't there always?) but overall I'm quite pleased with it!
Unknown parent

Sini Tuulia
@ErictheCerise Welllll... That's because steampunk is Victorian fashion put in a blender with brass and gears glued on top? 😄 It's not terrible in any way, it's very creative and fun, but I don't know, saying Victorian/Edwardian fashion looks Steampunk is like saying the Bayeux Tapestry reminds you of Ren Faires! Technically true, but rather the wrong way around...
Unknown parent

Sini Tuulia

@JoBlakely Oh, I just wear the shirt at home and everywhere! Goes with pretty much anything, really.

The jacket is based off a style that popped off in the late 1890s, and it was straight up copied off the open bolero jackets and military uniforms of some country, which were copied to school uniforms in Eton, which were copied into women's wear... Something like that. The same shape has been borrowed and re-borrowed so often that it looks like multiple other things. 😄 Fashion!

Sini Tuulia

@Duusi Thank you! Having followed the posts you must have noticed how much trouble the sleeves and back gave me, and that I am not at all infallible when it comes to sewing, yet. 😆

It's a little bit funny how much time I spent on the beading, and how little it's visible in any of the photos. Ah well, I know it's there.
