"[The #blockchain's] key attributes of transparency, trust, and immutability have the potential to have real impact by increasing efficiency, security, and verifiability in the way that organizations operate, access to services is delivered, data is stored and controlled, and assets are tracked. However, the realization of this potential requires an ethical approach that recognizes the relationship between #design and #human outcomes."

Our participation in @mozilla Open Leaders Program is teaching us to "Work Open, Lead Open" or in hashtag terms: #WOLO

And that means: No secrets!

Yesterday our HTC #Community Team presented their own #Vision stands to other candidates and we'll publish our notes publicly. Remember, our grand Vision is:

"Ubiquitous Humane Technology that Stimulates Humans to Flourish and Humanity to Thrive"

Alright this is a group of people we probably should follow and support: https://darkcrystal.pw/about

I really like the sound of a collaboration between people who are into #ethics, #openSource, #coop, #activism, #crypto and #collaboration.

A valid #question!

Is #Hollywood just #entertainment for the #mainstream - so that they don't get the idea to ask themselves questions? What counts is the #action - no thoughts are given to the #plot :(

ETHICALLY ACCEPTABLE. We may have just moved one step closer to designer babies. On Tuesday, the Nuffield Council on Bioethics (NCB), an independent U.K.-based organization that analyzes and reports on ethical issues in biology and medicine, released a report focused on the social and ethical issues surrounding human genome editing and reproduction.

Torture doesn't work

It's a depressing fact, but many if not most people still believe that #torture actually works; they believe that torture is an effective way of extracting information from an uncooperative subject. The #science has been in on the subject since as far back as it's been called science, but the belief persists. Most people will agree that it is unethical, though many will still allow for it in "extreme situations", but even those that say it shouldn't be done still harbour the belief that it works.

But torture doesn't work. The science is crystal clear on the matter. In fact, torture is not only unlikely to get you any good information, it actually damages the subject so much that it harms your chances of getting information from them in the future - even when you start using actually effective interrogation tactics (and they do exist). So even aside from the #ethics (which, really, shouldn't be ignored), torture is a bad idea.

The discovery of NSO’s #spyware on the phones of Mexican nutrition policy makers, activists and even #government employees, like Dr. Barquera, raises new questions about whether NSO’s tools are being used to advance the soda industry’s commercial interests in Mexico.

Programmers are having a huge discussion about the unethical and illegal things they’ve been asked to do

As computer programmers write code that runs everything from airplanes to pharmacy orders, there's a serious need for ethical training and guidelines.
