If I paste https://people.kernel.org/read to the "Add Contacts" field in Friendica, I get an error "cannot determine network type" :(

/read isn't a profile that you could add as contact. Try a link to a profile, like for example https://people.kernel.org/monsieuricon/ or https://people.kernel.org/gregkh/ or so.
