Have you met my cat Jacques? She will purr if you even look at her. And she has a purr like a freight train. You can hear it rooms away. #CatsOfMastodon
She was delivered to our house in Saigon, in a cardboard box, on the back of a bike. She was born on the street in that cardboard box, and had a terrible case of ringworm, so for the first few months, we had to shave her and pull a tube sock over her, so the medicine would stay on.
The cream didn't work, the shampoo didn't work. A western vet tried to convince me to put her on that systemic stuff, but my Vietnamese vet said that a kitten's liver doesn't need that kind of burden and handed me a dip made of sulpher and lime. Basically, sheep dip.
He swore it would work. And he was right. A single, very stinky application with a sponge - in the garden. And done. Never came back.
@Eetschrijver No, she was such a mess. Full of fleas and fungus, but strangely enough, very well socialized by her mom and her siblings, before I got her, so she was extremely easy to care for. But we put her through so much before I met that Vietnamese farm vet. And he was so good. So pragmatic. And really cognizant of how delicate kitten's organs are.
The easy to administer oral drug is great, but its VERY expensive, and also very hard on the liver.
@Eetschrijver It's a favourite with a lot of Western vets because it seems 'modern'. The sheep dip stinks and stains the fur bright yellow, but its far, far safer to the kitten, and over quickly. Much less stressful than having to force feed a kitten day in, day out.
The Vietnamese vet was also wonderful when I had to put my old cat Seven to sleep. He spread a blanket on the floor of his office and said: You cuddle with him as long as you like. When your ready we'll send him off in your arms.
Also have a cat with a very loud purr. This cat can not meow, we think something happened to her. But she can sure purr, you can literally hear her from across a room. She doesn't purr much, but when she does she's very loud.
We're not entirely sure. She was a rescue, someone picked her up and treated her for some accident or attack or something, but we don't really know what that was. We're not sure if whatever that was made her not be able to meow, or if she was just always like that. She kind of squeaks, but she can't form a full meow

in reply to Madeleine Morris • • •!! Sweet little kitty. Our rescue boys had fungal infections, a topical ointment cleared it up. Except for Chop, he lost an ear tip (hence the name).
Love your kitty's face.

in reply to Kim • • •@QueenOfTheCroneAge Oh, poor Chop! I'm glad it cleared up!
Yes, all cats are beautiful, but some have kind faces and some do not. She has a very kind face.
