and when the bell at the bottom was not belly enough I would sew in a wedge of contrasting fabric to reach the desired hem length close to 1m (3ft). Just to make tripping over it not a hazard but a routine.

And I get tempted by the one I've used but never owned every time I see it in the shops (but I'm not sure if the ones sold today qualify)
The other one I've owned and used, but not regularly. If I still had it it would probably still happen, but not often, and not enough to get a new one.
