really need to version control my .git/configs

I'd kind of been hoping for years that someone else would solve this..

My ~/.gitconfig is a symlink into the git repo where my dot files are. It's been working great for years.

Unless I use an editor that blithely overwrites the symlink with a file when I save.

I've optimized my life by not having per-repo git configs. πŸ˜†

@see shy jo Maybe put it in the same repo and symlink from .git to the worktree. Ideally though, local overrides would be possible, not sure if git has a mechanism for that.

Maybe some git wrapper that adds -c params from some file?

Wait... doesn't myrepo fix that problem, if all commands that are used to generate the .git/config are saved in the configuration files of myrepo?

That's how I've been using it.
