Hahaaa! I found a still running old school GNU Social that has a shadow profile of my old #quitter.se account!

Thank you for hanging in there, Professor Steve. πŸ₯°

Ever since the original #bifurcation of the network as Pump.io split off, #Identica has been a mere shadow of itself. It doesn't have complete historical conversations or working hashtags.

When I went back and found my original posts from when I joined in 2009, I couldn't even find the posts by the people who responded to welcome me to the network.

Thank you @steve so much for keeping Chirp up and running!

After fragdev and loadaverage went down the other year, yours is now the oldest still running GNU Social I'm aware of except for rainbowdash.net, and that one is highly customized and has search protected from outsiders.

I have been looking for sites that would contain posts from some of my old fedi accounts, and today I discovered that you're holding pretty complete records for two of them. 🀩

@clacke@mastodon.social I am glad this was helpful! I have to admit, though: my GNU social site is on my list of assets to retire. The last time I checked several months ago, there hadn't been any development. I worry more and more about server vulnerabilities enabled by unmaintained PHP code. It won't be too soon, but probably later this year I will retire the server.

@Stephen Sekula Lucky I found it when I did then!

Would you have any objections if I try to download it all while it's up? I could rate-limit myself.

The reason this is exciting is twofold:
1. Quitter ran the qvitter frontend, which means the Wayback Machine couldn't fetch posts in a way that actually worked and can be read back
2. This is full history (from the point Sekula started following me), not just some random captured post here and there that got linked from somewhere

One thing that is wonderful with a GNU Social shadow account is that you can find your hashtagged posts very easily.

My original #cerealization format overview thread:

I once tried to find this through fragments on mastosoc or something, but gave up.

@Michael Vogel As you or someone noted on github, it appears that Chirp runs a StatusNet that should support AP. I just verified, it does in fact implement AP. 😊
