Me revoilà camarades!

MuseScore | Free music composition and notation software

https://musescore.org/

Just started using it and already I'm STOKED. Very easy and fun to use, and there's apparently an epic community where people share the music they've composed. OH yeah, and it's #free and #open source. You can use it on #linux , #windows , #mac ( There's a version in apt-get for #ubuntu as well, looks like #archlinux #openSUSE and #BSD have packages as well).

I'm having a blast #composing #music =)

****#Pastilda: Open-source hardware password manager****
Pastilda is an open-source hardware #password #manager, designed to manage your credentials in a handy and secure way.
Pastilda works as a #middleman between your #computer and keyboard. It provides easy and safe auto-login to your #OS, bank accounts, mailboxes, corporate #network or social media. Pastilda stores #encrypted passwords in its memory. You can request a particular password at any time by pressing a special key combination on your keyboard.
Pastilda has two USB ports: one for your keyboard, one to connect to your #PC. Your OS will recognize Pastilda as a USB keyboard and a USB flash drive.
The flash drive component stores the encrypted #KeePass 2.x database (.kdbx file) and the KeePass 2.x portable #app as needed. Your real keyboard is now visible only to Pastilda, your PC won’t see it at all.
In normal working mode, all keystrokes from your keyboard are passed through Pastilda to your PC unchanged.
When you need to sign into an account, you switch to “Pastilda mode”. That’s done by placing your cursor inside the login text box and pressing the “Ctrl + ~” key combination. Pastilda will then ask you to enter the master password for your KeePass database, right in the current text box. If the password is entered correctly, Pastilda will decrypt and display your database. You can navigate through it with left, right, up, and down arrows or you can just start to input the name of the entry in your database and Pastilda will display matching variants. Once you find the entry you’re looking for, press Enter and Pastilda will automatically enter the corresponding login and password. If the password is incorrect, Pastilda gives you the option to try again or go back to regular mode by pressing the Esc key on your keyboard.

-----
Features & Specifications
- #Security:
- #Open-source #hardware and #software - you can trust Pastilda

Description

Throughout history, there has been a battle between those who wish to control information, and those who wish to set it free. Looking past profit and greed, there is a reasonable mentality for supporting the control of information. Humans can not always work for free, they require food, water, shelter and other essentials for survival. In order to continue quality of work, these needs must be met.

However, the money is not always reaching those who make the discoveries, and these are the people who work the hardest. This must change.

Intellectual Property is a misnomer, no single entity owns their intellect. One builds knowledge on the shoulders of others. While it is true that one deserves credit for their work, the act of disabling others to share this work is an injustice to humanity, and renders the work as useless.

A solution to this problem is more important than any other.

Without knowledge, education, and the ability to access it: Humans will not be able to make informed decisions, and will not be able to solve other complex problem they face. Until this problem is solved, humanity will continue to shuffle their feet slowly toward solutions, and when the day come that Earth is in mortal peril, Earth's population might not be ready to act.

Three Things Students Can Do Now to Promote Open Access

The open access movement is a long-standing campaign in the world of research to make scholarly works freely available and reusable. One of its fundamental premises is that the progress of knowledge and culture happens scholarly works of all kinds are widely shared, not hidden in ivory towers built with paywalls and shorn by harsh legal regimes.

Scholarly journal publishers currently compile research done by professors (for free), send articles out to be peer reviewed (for free), and distribute the edited journals back to universities around the world (for costs anywhere up to $35,000 each). Subscription prices have outpaced inflation by over 250 percent in the past 30 years, and these fees go straight to the publisher. Neither the authors nor their institutions are paid a cent, and the research itself—which is largely funded by taxpayers—remains difficult to attain. Skyrocketing costs have forced university libraries—even Harvard's, the richest American university—to pick and choose between journal subscriptions.

The result: students and citizens face barriers accessing information they need; professors have a harder time reviewing and teaching the state of the art; and cutting-edge research remains hidden behind paywalls, depriving it of the visibility it deserves.

The good news is that the open access movement is changing all this, and you can help. As scholars, researchers, and tuition-payers, students hold a powerful voice in setting the course for the future of knowledge.

Here are three quick actions you can take to help promote the open access movement and support the cultural commons:

Aaron Swartz’s website included instructions about what to do with his work in case he could not longer keep his web services running. For one of his requests, he asked “that the contents of all my hard drives be made publicly available” on his website.
